D.S. Mehta

D. S. Mehta (born on April 27, 1936) is an honours graduated in commerce from Mumbai University. He is a fellow member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. He has been associated with the Bajaj Group of companies since 1966 and has more than 30 years experience in corporate law, taxation, finance and investment.

One of his most prestigious assignments was as member of the working group to re-draft the Companies Act, 1956. He was also a member of the Economic Affairs Committee of the Confederation of Engineering Industry and Taxation Sub-Committee of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

He is an honorary joint director of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and vice president of the Kasturba Health Society at Sewagram, Wardha, in Maharashtra, which runs a 590-bed hospital and a full-fledged medical college with excellent research facilities. He is also joint managing trustee of the Saurashtra Trust, which owns and publishes leading Gujarati language newspapers and magazines. He is also the vice chairman of the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust at Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This trust, which has 450 centres spread across 23 states in the country, works for the emancipation of women and children.

He has been on the board of Bajaj Auto Ltd since 1998.
